Audio matters more than picture in a wedding film: a film where you can't hear the vows is a dead film

When choosing a videographer, most people look at the picture: the camera movement, the color grade, whether there's a drone.

But what you'll genuinely rewatch years later is the soundHearing clearly what you said back then, and the moment your father's voice caught during his speech.

Broken audio can't be rescued

Less-than-perfect visuals are still watchable, but it is such a shame if vows are unclear or speeches get swallowed by wind and noise.that footage is dead, and no post-production fixes it.

Two questions to ask

"What microphones do you use?"
"Do you record a backup?"

A good answer will mention:

• Lavalier micsPut a lavalier mic on the officiant and the groom, as this is the most reliable way to capture vows.
• A feed from the DJ or PA system(Used to capture speeches)
• An independent backup recorderPlace it near the altar so you have a backup just in case a wireless mic fails.

If all they say is "my camera has a microphone," that won't capture clear speech from ten meters away at a ceremony.

Particular reminders for a Chinese wedding

Audio on Chinese speeches

If there are speeches in Chinese, brief your videographer clearly. Since they won't understand the content, they can't tell what is important or where not to cut, so give them a timeline and an outline (see items 44 and 108 of the checklist).

Audio at the tea ceremony

A tea ceremony usually happens in a smaller space and quietly (the elders' words of blessing). It's the hardest segment to capture, so warn them to prepare for it.

A version for family in Taiwan

If relatives couldn't attend, the full-length film means far more to them than the highlight reel. Confirm you'll receive a shareable file format, not just an online link that expires (see item 127 of the checklist).

Whether to have a wedding film at all

It's the item most often cut when budgets are tight. How to decide: do you want to see it or to hear it?

Photos preserve the image; film preserves the sound and the movement. If your parents are elderly, or relatives can't attend, a film is worth more than you currently think.
